Surge in Applications for Haryana Sanitation Worker Jobs Highlights Worsening Unemployment

The Haryana government has announced recruitment for 5 thousand sanitation workers under the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN). A surprising number of candidates applying for this has come to the fore. According to a report, more than 46 thousand graduate and postgraduate candidates have applied for the job of a sanitation worker. That is, 9 times more people applied than the post. These recruitments will be on a contract basis. The salary for these recruitments has been kept at Rs 15 thousand per month.

According to the report, between August 6 and September 2, 39,990 graduates and more than 6,112 postgraduates applied for the recruitment of sanitation workers' posts released by Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN). Apart from this, 1.2 lakh candidates who have applied are those who are 12th pass. From these figures, the problem of unemployment in the country and the state can be estimated.

Earlier recruitments in the government departments of Haryana were done on a contract basis or through contract. The BJP government formed Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN) during its tenure. Now temporary recruitment of government staff is done through HKRN.

Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam had issued a recruitment notification. The date of the online application started from 6 August 2024. The deadline to apply ended on 22 August. The eligibility for these posts is 18-42 years and eighth pass.

According to the report, the candidates recruited for these posts will have to ensure the cleanliness of public places, roads and buildings. Apart from this, garbage will also have to be cleaned. At the same time, the important thing is that the appointment in this job will be in the home district only.

The officials argued that the youth may have applied for these posts by mistake. It is clearly written in the job description that for which posts, candidates of which qualification are required. The official said, "Candidates who have applied for the posts of Safai Karmi on the HKRN website have to give an undertaking that they have read the job description carefully. Because it is written in the description that the work will be to clean the garbage in public places. Also, the candidates will have to fill out a consent form that they will be appointed in their home district only.

According to the data of the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), there has been a decline in the unemployment rate among people aged 15 years and above in the urban areas of the country. This rate was 6.7% in the January-March quarter of 2024, while it was 6.8% in the same period a year ago. According to the data, the unemployment rate among women aged 15 years and above in urban areas was 8.5%, which was 9.2% in the January-March quarter of last year. It was 9.1% in April-June 2023, July-September 2023 and October-December It was 8.6% in 2023.

At the same time, according to the 22nd Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS), the unemployment rate of people aged 15 years and above in urban areas was 6.7% in the January to March quarter this year.
