RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has made a striking pre-poll promise ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, announcing that every household in the state will have at least one person in a government job if his party is voted back to power. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Yadav vowed to bring in legislation within just 20 days of forming the government to ensure the implementation of this ambitious employment guarantee.

“We will ensure that every household has one government job. A new Act will be passed within 20 days of forming the government, and within 20 months, this scheme will be implemented across Bihar. Not a single household will be left out,” Yadav declared.

This promise is in line with Yadav’s consistent focus on employment as a key political issue. During the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, he had also centered his campaign around providing 10 lakh government jobs — a move that significantly boosted his support among the youth, though it ultimately wasn’t enough to bring the RJD-led alliance to power.

The latest announcement comes as Bihar prepares for its next state elections, with polling scheduled in two phases on November 6 and November 11. Results will be declared on November 14. A total of 243 Assembly seats are up for grabs, and the electoral dynamics are expected to be fierce, with employment, education, and development dominating the campaign narrative.

According to the latest figures from the Election Commission, Bihar has a total of 7.42 crore registered voters as per the final electoral roll. Interestingly, this is a drop from the 7.89 crore electors listed earlier in June 2025, following a cleanup that saw 65 lakh names removed from the draft list. The number of voters in the draft roll as of August 1 stood at 7.24 crore.

Tejashwi Yadav’s promise, while ambitious, taps into widespread unemployment concerns in Bihar — a state with one of the highest migration rates due to lack of local job opportunities. Whether the electorate views the scheme as visionary or unrealistic will likely play a key role in determining the RJD's electoral fortunes this November.
