Telangana BJP Stages Maha Dharna, Accuses Congress Government of Fraud and Failed Promises
Led by state chief N Ramchandra Rao, BJP leaders — including Union Minister G Kishan Reddy — slammed the Congress for unfulfilled guarantees, poor financial management, and continuing the “corruption and defections” seen under the previous BRS regime.
The Telangana BJP staged a Maha Dharna at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, on Sunday, launching a sharp attack on the Congress government over what it described as large-scale frauds, unfulfilled assurances, and anti-people governance.
The protest was led by Telangana BJP President N Ramchandra Rao, who also released a detailed charge sheet outlining what the party says are the failures of the Congress administration.
Addressing the gathering, union Minister G Kishan Reddy delivered a forceful critique of both the previous BRS government and the current Congress regime.
He said the BRS had pushed Telangana into a debt crisis during its decade-long rule, accusing it of imposing family dominance, corruption, irregularities and dictatorial practices. He said that despite the sacrifices made during the Telangana movement, the state ultimately became, in his words, “a hostage in the hands of the KCR family,” leading to widespread public fatigue with BRS governance.
Kishan Reddy said that people turned to Congress hoping for change, encouraged by grand promises made by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Revanth Reddy.
However, he alleged that the Congress government has failed to deliver on its commitments even after two years in power. He questioned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s ongoing statewide tours, saying, “With what face are you celebrating these victory festivals?” and challenged him to present the number of promises fulfilled so far.
He criticised the government for repeatedly highlighting only two schemes — free bus travel and subsidised rice — and accused it of masking the Centre’s contribution to the rice distribution programme.
“For every kilo of rice the state claims to give, the Centre provides Rs 43, while the Telangana government contributes only Rs 13,” he said. He demanded that the Chief Minister clarify which sections of society had benefited under his rule and in which sectors meaningful change had occurred.
Kishan Reddy also accused the Congress of continuing what he described as the BRS tradition of political defections, stating that party hopping remains unchanged regardless of who is in power. He questioned the failure to implement promises made to farmers, tenant farmers, job seekers, BCs, SCs, STs, employees and the families of Telangana martyrs.
He challenged the Chief Minister to a public debate at Indira Park, Praja Bhavan or the Press Club on the status of election guarantees, including job notifications, unemployment allowance, pensions, financial assistance to SC and ST families, and commitments to women.
The union Minister criticised the Congress government’s financial management, alleging that without selling government lands, it would struggle to pay salaries, pensions, welfare benefits and dues to contractors. He questioned the failure to close belt shops despite the party’s manifesto promise and accused the government of attempting to raise massive revenue through liquor sales.
“What BRS did earlier, Congress is doing now. Both parties are family parties, both thrive on corruption and broken promises,” he said, urging people to question the government at every level.
Rajya Sabha MP Dr K Laxman, DK Aruna, MLCs Malka Komuraiah and Anji Reddy, MLA Payal Shankar, senior leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy and several other BJP leaders participated in the protest.
