To enhance employability and curb migration in Tripura, the Directorate of Skill Development has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with IIT Delhi and TATA IIS to train 1,000 youths in advanced, industry-relevant job roles, aligning the state’s workforce.

Officials said the first MoU involves collaboration between IIT Delhi and state institutions to train 500 candidates in emerging technology areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Blockchain, and 5G technologies.

This training initiative will be carried out in partnership with NIELIT Agartala, Tripura Institute of Technology, and other government-supported centers across the state. Funding for the program will be provided by a combined contribution from Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 and Mukhya Mantri Dakyatha Unnyanan Prakalpa (MMDUP).

CEO of IIT Delhi’s I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics, Ashutosh Dutt Sharma, expressed interest in establishing a regional innovation center in Tripura after signing the MoU. This center could provide essential resources for startups specialising in advanced technologies and foster new IT-related employment options within the state, officials stated.

The second MoU with Tata IIS focuses on training another 500 candidates in technical fields such as Industrial Automation Safety Engineering, Industrial Robotics System Integration, Electric Vehicle Maintenance, CNC Programming, and 3D Printing Operations.

These training programs will be conducted through various Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state. Tata IIS Chief Financial Officer Mayank Palan highlighted that the training would be directly linked to job placements, connecting successful candidates with Tata’s manufacturing units and partner industries nationwide, officials underlined.

The Industries and Commerce Secretary, Kiran Gitte, said these initiatives aim to create local employment opportunities in the IT, ITeS, and startup ecosystems. He underscored the importance of skilled trainers, modern infrastructure, and motivated trainees for effective implementation.

“These MoUs mark a significant stride in Tripura’s endeavour to develop a skilled workforce ready for the future and solidify its position within the evolving industrial and technological landscape,” Gitte added.
