TVK Leader Aadhav Arjuna Booked for Post Urging Gen Z to ‘Resist’ TN Government After Karur Stampede
Case filed under multiple sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after Arjuna's now-deleted post sparks controversy; comes amid arrests and political fallout following rally tragedy that killed 41.
A case has been registered against Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) campaign management general secretary Aadhav Arjuna over a controversial social media post urging Tamil Nadu’s Gen Z to rise up against the ruling government. The now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter) reportedly went live less than 48 hours after the tragic stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur, which claimed 41 lives.
The post quickly drew attention for its strong language, with Arjuna calling on the youth to resist authority and start a revolution. Screenshots of the deleted message have since gone viral. In Tamil, Arjuna wrote that the youth should "recover from the shock of police turning into foot soldiers of the ruling class" and added, “Just as the youth and Gen Z united and created a revolution elsewhere, the same uprising will happen here.”
He went further, saying, “That uprising will lay the foundation for a change in governance and be the final word against state terrorism. When ruled by ghosts, only scriptures remain behind.”
Following this, the North Zone Cyber Crime Police registered a case under sections 192, 196(1)(b), 197(1)(d), 353(1)(b), and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, according to ANI.
The FIR against Arjuna comes just hours after TVK chief Vijay posted a video message expressing deep anguish over the Karur stampede. While extending condolences to the victims’ families, Vijay defended his party, stating they only spoke from their designated venue and did not violate any rules. However, he acknowledged the tragedy with a heavy heart, saying, “My heart is only filled with pain.”
In the same message, Vijay issued a strong appeal to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, urging him not to target TVK party members or supporters. “CM sir, if you intend to take revenge, do anything to me, but don't lay a hand on them,” he said.
Meanwhile, DMK leader A Raja criticized Vijay, suggesting his absence at the scene reflected guilt. “Fleeing implies a guilty conscience,” he said, questioning why no senior TVK leaders stayed back to assist the victims.
Two TVK members, including Karur West District Secretary Mathiyazhagan and local functionary Paun Raj, were arrested earlier in connection with the incident.
