Zubeen Garg’s Wife Returns Postmortem Report, Trusts Authorities to Deliver Justice
Amid poisoning allegations and ongoing CID probe, Garima Garg urges patience as Assam government sets up judicial commission to investigate the singer’s mysterious death in Singapore.
Garima Garg, the wife of the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, has handed over her husband’s postmortem report to the investigators, emphasizing that such sensitive documents should remain with the authorities rather than with family members. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Garima expressed her full trust in the ongoing investigation into her husband’s mysterious death and said she is committed to seeing justice done.
“I personally thought about it and took suggestions as well. Since the investigation is still ongoing, I did not consider the report as my personal document. That’s why I returned it to the investigating officer,” she explained. Garima also warned that making the report public could interfere with the investigation, which is still unfolding.
The singer’s death on September 19 in Singapore, where he was attending the NorthEast India Festival, has sparked widespread speculation and public concern. Initial reports suggested Zubeen Garg died by drowning while swimming, but recent allegations have dramatically shifted the narrative. One explosive claim from band member Shekhar Jyoti Goswami accused the singer’s manager and the event organiser of poisoning him.
When asked about these serious accusations, Garima appeared taken aback by the timing. “We considered everyone as part of the family, like brothers. Zubeen always said they were our extended family, and we cared about their families too. That’s what we did. Now, if something like this has happened, then the strictest punishment should be given,” she said.
The case is currently under investigation by the Assam CID, with over 60 FIRs filed against Shyamkanu Mahanta—the chief organiser of the NorthEast India Festival—and nearly ten others, including band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha. Four individuals, including Mahanta and Goswami, have already been arrested and are under 14 days of police remand.
In addition, the Assam government has established a one-man judicial commission headed by Justice Soumitra Saikia of the Gauhati High Court to conduct a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg’s death.
Zubeen Garg’s sudden passing has shocked his fans and the cultural community, with many seeking answers as the investigation continues into the circumstances of his death while swimming in Singapore.
