Senior IAS officer’s passionate initiative for earth, cycles to office every day

Update: 2022-08-04 03:01 GMT
Senior IAS officer BVRC Purshottam cycles to his office in Dehradun everyday, covering a distance of 8 kms. He took to this mode of transportation after his deputation at Delhi, where he saw the true severity of noise and air pollution levels. He believes that although Uttarakhand is at a better place environmentally, with a greater green cover and comparitively lower levels of pollution, we shouldn't take that fact for granted.
He was also greatly inspired by "The Lifestyle for the Environment Movement (LiFE)" launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5. This was a global initiative, asserting the need for a lifestyle that doesn't harm our planet. It was introduced by the Prime Minister himself at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference for the Parties in Glasgow, last year. Purshottam is a 2004 batch IAS officer. He has erstwhile served as District Magistrate, Dehradun in 2012, and as Garhwal Commissioner in 2019. Now having rode for over a month, he has begun to find cycling as also a faster and a more convenient form of commute from his residence to his office.
