Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has firmly denied rumours linking him to the post of BCCI President, clarifying on Thursday that he is not in the running to succeed Roger Binny. Over the past week, speculation had been rife that the former India batter was being considered as a potential consensus candidate ahead of the upcoming BCCI elections.

Putting an end to the buzz, Tendulkar’s management company, SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd, issued an official statement:

“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations.”

The top post at the BCCI is currently vacant following the exit of Roger Binny, who stepped down earlier this year after crossing the age limit of 70 years set by the board's constitution. In the interim, Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has taken charge as acting president. Elections for the new office-bearers are scheduled for September 28 at the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting.

Fueling speculation, a recent report by *Dainik Jagran* had claimed that a legendary Indian cricketer, known for his record-breaking career, was being considered for the top job. With Tendulkar’s name surfacing, fans and media were quick to assume the Master Blaster might be approached as a unanimous choice.

However, Tendulkar has never shown interest in cricket administration. While every former India player is automatically a member of their respective state association—as per the BCCI constitution—contesting for any board position requires a formal nomination from that association, which Tendulkar has not pursued.

The trend of former cricketers leading the BCCI began in 2019 with Sourav Ganguly, followed by Roger Binny, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad.

Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of the greatest batters in the history of the game, holds numerous cricketing records, including most runs in Tests and ODIs, and the highest number of centuries in Test cricket. Although he once held the record for most ODI centuries as well, that milestone was surpassed by Virat Kohli during the 2023 World Cup semi-final—fittingly played at Wankhede Stadium, Tendulkar’s home ground.

With this clarification, the cricket legend has made it clear he intends to stay away from boardroom politics—for now.
