Delhi CM Urges Immediate Evacuation as Yamuna River Reaches All-Time High

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has issued a plea for residents of low-lying areas near the Yamuna River to evacuate immediately, as the water level continues to rise to unprecedented levels. Kejriwal expressed concerns about the imminent danger to people's lives and urged them not to take selfies or videos of the flooded river due to potential hazards.
During a press conference, Kejriwal highlighted that the water level of the Yamuna River has surpassed the danger mark, reaching 207.71, exceeding the previous record set in 1978 at 207.49. Predictions from the Central Water Commission suggest that the water level may rise further to 207.72 tonight. Kejriwal informed that Delhi has not received rainfall in the past few days, but water from Himachal Pradesh and Haryana is flowing into the city. He has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting assistance in reducing the water inflow to prevent the river from overflowing.
However, Kejriwal received information from Union Minister Gajendra Shekhawat that limiting the river's flow rate is not feasible due to the absence of a reservoir at Hathinikund Barrage. Shekhawat also mentioned a reduction in the water released from Himachal Pradesh to Haryana, which will eventually lower the water level in the Yamuna, although it will take time for the river to recede.
Understanding the challenges of leaving homes behind, the Chief Minister empathized with residents but emphasized that low-lying areas would be severely affected. He mentioned various sites that have already been touched, including Boat club, Monastery market, Neeli Chhatri shrine, Yamuna bazar, and Majnu ka Tila to Wazirabad, among others.
Considering the critical situation, it is crucial for people to prioritize their safety and promptly heed the evacuation instructions provided by the authorities.
