Dhurandhar 2 Gets A Certificate; CBFC Makes 21 Cuts, Trims 94 Seconds
Ranveer Singh's Aditya Dhar action sequel runs 229 minutes after censor edits; film targets Rs 200 crore opening day worldwide on Eid release
Aditya Dhar's highly anticipated action sequel Dhurandhar 2 has cleared the Central Board of Film Certification with an A certificate, with the censor board trimming 1 minute and 34 seconds from the film across 21 cuts ahead of its release on Thursday.
The CBFC's modifications cover a wide range of content. Abuses have been muted, drug scenes now carry disclaimer slides and content warnings, and violent sequences — including depictions of head injuries, lacerations, and eye-related gore — have been shortened. Subtitle corrections include replacing incorrect regional text and adjusting a demonetisation-related date reference. The makers have also been required to obtain an official certificate for references to Prime Minister Modi in the film, submit animal welfare clearance, and seek permission for news footage used within the narrative.
Despite the cuts, Dhurandhar 2 clocks in at 229 minutes — making it significantly longer than its predecessor and one of Bollywood's lengthier theatrical releases in recent memory.
The film follows Ranveer Singh's character Hamza Ali Mazumdar on his transformation into Rat Singh Rangi, with the trailer signalling a markedly more intense and violent tone than the first installment. The film is a pan-India release and is tracking strongly in advance bookings, with trade analysts projecting a worldwide opening day collection exceeding Rs 200 crore. An Eid release window is expected to provide the film additional box office momentum.
