Union Home Minister Amit Shah is in Guwahati today for a landmark occasion — the 87th Raising Day Parade of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), being hosted in Assam and the Northeast for the very first time. Shah will serve as Chief Guest at the parade, held at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Stadium, before laying the foundation stone for a new campus of the 10th Assam Police Battalion later in the afternoon.

The CRPF's annual Raising Day Parade has, for the first time in the force's 87-year history, moved beyond its traditional venues to be hosted in the northeastern region — a decision seen as a recognition of the Northeast's growing strategic and security significance. Around 1,400 CRPF personnel, organised across eight contingents, will participate in the parade, putting on display the force's operational strength, equipment, and combat preparedness before the Home Minister and assembled dignitaries.

Following the morning parade, Shah will travel to Kachutoli — a locality near Guwahati — to lay the foundation stone for a new campus of the 10th Assam Police Battalion. The battalion is currently operating out of Guwahati and will eventually relocate to the newly constructed premises once the development is complete, significantly upgrading its infrastructure and operational capacity.

The twin events mark a significant day for Assam's security and administrative landscape, underlining the Centre's continued focus on strengthening law enforcement infrastructure across the northeastern states.
