Security agencies have sounded a high-level terror alert, with sources warning that Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is planning a major improvised explosive device (IED) attack near the Red Fort and other prominent religious sites across India. The alert comes amid heightened vigilance following a string of recent terror incidents in the region.

According to sources citing security agencies, Lashkar-e-Taiba is allegedly planning the attacks as an act of retaliation for the February 6 suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad, which killed over 30 people and injured more than 160. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for that attack. Security agencies are now on high alert, with forces deployed across sensitive locations as a precautionary measure.

The current alert carries added urgency given the area's recent history. On November 10 last year, a car packed with explosives detonated near the Red Fort Metro Station, killing at least 12 people and injuring over 13. Subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle was driven by Umar Un Nabi, a doctor employed at Al-Falah University in Faridabad. The explosion triggered fires in several nearby vehicles, causing widespread panic in one of Delhi's most densely visited heritage corridors.

Authorities have not disclosed specific operational details, but security has been significantly tightened around the Red Fort and other identified religious sites. Intelligence agencies are actively monitoring the threat and coordinating with state police forces to prevent any potential attack.
