Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unfurled the national flag at his official residence on Monday on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day and extended his greetings to the people of the state.

Recalling that the Constitution of India came into force on January 26, 1950, the Chief Minister said that over the past 76 years the nation has witnessed many challenges and transformations. Despite these ups and downs, he said, the resolve of “One India, Great India” has guided the country toward a new and confident India, strengthening the pride, unity and integrity of every citizen from north to south and east to west. He underlined that the Constitution has played a vital role in this journey and continues to inspire a deep sense of collective responsibility.

Remembering the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, CM Yogi said that under his leadership the freedom movement reached new heights. He paid homage to the great sons of India who dedicated their lives to the nation’s freedom, including the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly and first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the architect of the Constitution Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and revolutionary leader Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

The Chief Minister recalled that India attained independence on August 15, 1947, and under the leadership of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution on November 26, 1949. He noted that November 26 is now observed across the country as Constitution Day, and stressed that it is the duty of every citizen to serve the Constitution with reverence and dedication, as it has remained the nation’s strength in all circumstances.

Referring to the opening words “We, the people of India,” CM Yogi said the Constitution draws its true strength from its citizens. He emphasised that every institution, ministry and department must remain accountable to the people, as this accountability reflects the spirit of the Constitution.

He warned that disrespecting the fundamental principles of the Constitution amounts to disrespecting the sacrifices of those who fought for the country’s independence. The Constitution, he said, is a sacred document that must guide the nation even in the most difficult times. He called for continued efforts to strengthen unity and integrity while advancing justice, equality and fraternity for every citizen.

Describing justice, equality and fraternity as the core values of the Constitution, CM Yogi said that every citizen must receive justice without discrimination based on caste, religion, language or region. If an atmosphere of equality and fraternity prevails, he added, nothing can obstruct Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a developed nation.

He said the idea of a developed India should be a source of pride for every citizen, as it signifies not only economic growth but also happiness and overall prosperity. This journey, he stressed, must begin with those at the lowest rung of society and progress by empowering them, fostering self-reliance at every level.

Quoting the Prime Minister, CM Yogi said that justice, equality and fraternity have been central to establishing India as the world’s largest democracy. He noted that before independence, several attempts were made to divide society along the lines of language, region and caste, but such conspiracies failed. Whenever efforts are made to weaken the spirit of the Constitution, voices of dissent emerge, reinforcing the principles of justice and collective harmony enshrined in it.

The Chief Minister said that anyone who considers themselves above justice, the Constitution or the system is showing disrespect to the Constitution, as no individual can claim absolute authority. He said Republic Day serves as a renewed reminder to move forward with dedication to constitutional values and to strengthen collective resolve.

Referring to the national heroes’ motto of “Nation First,” CM Yogi said that the Constitution itself embodies this spirit and will continue to strengthen the country’s resolve in the years to come.
