New Bihar Cabinet Unveils Major Employment Push, 25 Sugar Mills and 11 Townships Approved

First meeting chaired by CM Nitish Kumar also clears AI Mission, tech hubs, Defence Corridor plan and major recruitment drives across health and education.

The newly formed Bihar Cabinet, in its first meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday, approved several initiatives aimed at widespread employment generation and industrial development in the state.

After the meeting, Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit told the media that the Cabinet has decided to set up 25 new sugar mills and reopen nine previously closed mills. The Cabinet also approved the development of 11 new townships, one in each of the nine divisional headquarters, along with Sitamarhi and Sonepur.

He further said that the government plans to develop Bihar as the new tech hub of Eastern India, with proposals to establish a Defence Corridor, a Semiconductor Manufacturing Park, Global Capability Centres, a Mega Tech City and a Fintech City.

Pratyay Amrit added that the Cabinet has approved the establishment of the Bihar Artificial Intelligence Mission to position the state as a leader in the field of artificial intelligence. Under this mission, talented professionals will be engaged to support AI-driven initiatives.

Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary, who assumed charge on Tuesday, said that good governance, strict action against criminals, and speedy trials will be the top priorities of the Home Department.

He has also directed the formation of an Anti-Romeo Squad to prevent harassment of girls and issued instructions to curb abusive behaviour on social media.

Health Minister Mangal Pandey said that recruitment for more than 33,000 positions in the Health Department will be completed soon, as the process is in its final stage.

He also stated that three new medical colleges, in Vaishali, Bhojpur, and Siwan, are expected to be ready next year.

Education Minister Sunil Kumar said that all vacant posts in the department, including those of teachers, will be filled on a priority basis.

The Education Department has also issued orders defining the seniority of various categories of teachers.
