Ola, Uber, Rapido Drivers to Strike Nationwide on February 7
Telangana App-Based Drivers Forum announces "All-India Breakdown" over unfair fare practices and lack of minimum base fare
Drivers associated with major ride-hailing platforms Ola, Uber, and Rapido will participate in a nationwide strike on February 7, protesting against what they describe as unfair practices and lack of transparent fare systems despite new government guidelines.
The Telangana App-Based Drivers Forum (TADF) announced the "All-India Breakdown" on Tuesday, February 3, citing severe financial pressure faced by drivers across the country.
Why Drivers Are Striking
Despite the government introducing Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025, drivers claim aggregator companies continue to determine fares without clear or transparent methods. According to TADF, platforms are ignoring the intent of the new guidelines and maintaining unilateral control over pricing.
This lack of transparency has resulted in unstable incomes, forcing many drivers to work excessively long hours while struggling with debt and uncertain livelihoods.
Impact on Commuters
TADF noted that these practices affect passengers as well. Surge pricing and weak regulatory oversight often lead to higher fares for commuters. The forum criticized both central and state governments for delays in notifying a minimum base fare.
Key Demands
Demand Category | Specific Asks |
Fare Regulation | Immediate announcement of minimum base fares |
Vehicle Policy | Ban on private, non-commercial vehicles for app-based rides |

Commuters Likely to Face Disruption
The nationwide strike is expected to significantly impact daily commuters who rely on these platforms for short trips and long-distance travel. Users are advised to plan alternative transportation arrangements for February 7.
