Gujarat Cabinet Resigns En Masse Ahead of Major Reshuffle; New Ministers to Take Oath Friday
All ministers except the Chief Minister submitted resignations following central leadership’s directive; Arjun Modhwadia and Rivaba Jadeja likely to join the new cabinet.
Gujarat politics witnessed a major upheaval on Thursday when the entire cabinet, excluding the Chief Minister, resigned en masse. This unexpected development heated up the state's political atmosphere. Sources indicate that leaders like Arjun Modhwadia and Rivaba Jadeja may be included in the new cabinet.
According to reports, 25 cabinet and state ministers representing departments such as Home, Education, Health, Transport, Energy, Water Resources, and Women and Child Development resigned from their posts. However, it is unclear which ministers will rejoin the cabinet and which will remain out.
This decision was made at a meeting held at the Chief Minister's residence, where the central leadership's directives were presented to the state government. Following the meeting, all 16 ministers submitted their resignations to the Chief Minister, which will be presented to Governor Acharya Devvrat tonight.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet will take place at 11:30 am on Friday at the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President J.P. Nadda in attendance.
Party sources say Gujarat BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma directed the ministers to resign to effect a complete reshuffle of the cabinet, which is believed to be part of the BJP's broader organisational strategy ahead of the upcoming elections.
