An incident has taken place where TVK functionary CTR Nirmal Kumar has written a letter to the Governor of Manipur seeking security for TVK leader Vijay. The fact that TVK wrote the letter without even knowing that Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla had retired has become a subject of ridicule among the general public.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on April 23. In this, TVK leader Vijay is contesting from two constituencies — Perambur and Tiruchi East. For this, Vijay filed his nomination on March 30 in the Perambur constituency and immediately began campaigning. Vijay carried out campaigning in Perambur and Kolathur constituencies.

This led to large crowds gathering. At one point, Vijay’s vehicle got stuck as it could not move due to the crowd. As a result, the campaign scheduled in Villivakkam constituency in support of Aadhav Arjuna was cancelled. Following this, Vijay has not undertaken campaigning for the past two days.

Similarly, a letter was sent to Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik stating that adequate security was not being provided to Vijay by the police. Not only that, Vijay has been provided Y-category security by the Central government. Even in that, citing deficiencies, TVK Joint General Secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar has written a letter to the Union Home Secretary.

However, the name mentioned in that letter has become a point of ridicule. In the letter sent by TVK, Ajay Bhalla has been mentioned as the Union Home Secretary. But Ajay Bhalla had already retired in 2024. Subsequently, in January 2025, Ajay Bhalla was appointed as the Governor of Manipur.

At present, Govind Mohan is serving as the Union Home Secretary. Due to this, it appears that the letter has instead been sent to the Governor of Manipur. The fact that TVK functionary CTR Nirmal Kumar wrote a letter without even knowing that the official had retired two years ago has drawn criticism and mockery from various political parties. There is also a possibility that the letter may be returned.”
