TVK–AIADMK–BJP alliance will face crushing defeat in Tamil Nadu: CPI(M) leader K. Balakrishnan
Campaigning in Puducherry, CPI(M) leader K. Balakrishnan targets NDA, alleges governance failure and predicts electoral setback in Tamil Nadu
“TVK led by Vijay and the AIADMK, part of the National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu, will face a crushing defeat,” said K. Balakrishnan, Political Bureau member of the CPI(M).
Campaigning in support of CPI(M) candidate Rajangam, who is contesting the Puducherry Assembly elections, K. Balakrishnan addressed voters today near the Laspet Uzhavar Sandhai.
He also campaigned separately in open vehicles, seeking votes for CPI candidate Nara Kalainathan, contesting in the Uzhavarkarai constituency, and CPI(M) candidate Dakshinamoorthy, contesting in the Thirubhuvanai constituency.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, “The NR Congress–BJP alliance, which has ruled Puducherry for the past five years, has been described as a ‘double engine government’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister Rangasamy. However, contrary to these claims, they have failed to implement any development schemes. If voted back to power, they will sell Puducherry like old scrap.
Basic infrastructure has not been developed in a small Union Territory like Puducherry. Even closed ration shops have not been fully reopened. Puducherry continues to remain an industrially backward region. In the name of a ‘double engine government’, permissions were granted to several fake pharmaceutical units worth thousands of crores, leading to corruption. This stands as the biggest ‘achievement’ of the NR Congress–BJP alliance government,” he alleged.
Later, speaking to reporters, K. Balakrishnan said, “Four Left candidates are contesting in Puducherry. Even though we are contesting separately, we will form an alternative government. Other parties in the INDIA alliance are supporting us in the constituencies where we are contesting, and we are supporting them where they are contesting. The previous NR Congress–BJP regime has ruined Puducherry.
How did those arrested in the fake pharmaceutical case come out on bail? While seeking votes, Chief Minister Rangasamy must answer whether this is an achievement of his government. He had earlier said he does not even have the authority to transfer an official. If he wins again and becomes Chief Minister, will he suddenly gain such powers? He may remain Chief Minister in name, but governance and authority will remain with the BJP.
During the Lok Sabha elections, BJP leader Annamalai criticised Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Similarly, TTV Dhinakaran criticised Palaniswami, and Palaniswami criticised Dhinakaran. Have all those differences now been resolved? In this election, Palaniswami has become the leader, while Dhinakaran has become a subordinate. Even within the PMK, internal family disputes remain unresolved. In the AIADMK, senior leaders like O. Panneerselvam and Sengottaiyan have been sidelined by Palaniswami. The AIADMK has weakened and fragmented.
How can such fragmented parties form a strong alliance? Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has already admitted that the NDA will not secure a majority in Tamil Nadu and has said that a government will be formed post-election with Vijay’s support. The TVK–AIADMK–BJP alliance in Tamil Nadu will face a crushing defeat,” he said.
