Vijay’s Election Affidavits Cross 3.25 Lakh Downloads, Disclosures Draw Public Attention
High public interest in TVK chief Vijay’s nomination papers amid discrepancies and revised filings in Perambur and Tiruchi East constituencies.
Chennai: The affidavits filed by TVK chief Vijay have drawn significant public attention, with a large number of users accessing and downloading the documents from the Election Commission’s website.
According to available data, more than 3.25 lakh users have downloaded and viewed the details of Vijay’s nomination papers. The actor-turned-politician is contesting from two constituencies — Chennai’s Perambur and Tiruchirappalli (East).
Vijay filed his nomination from Perambur on March 30, stating in his affidavit that no criminal cases were pending against him. Subsequently, he submitted his nomination from Tiruchi East on April 1. In that affidavit, however, he mentioned a case registered at Koodakovil police station in connection with a complaint alleging that his security personnel assaulted individuals during a conference held in Madurai in 2025.
He clarified that he had not received any summons or formal communication from the police regarding the case, and that the disclosure was made after the information came to his notice. This discrepancy had initially led to speculation that his Perambur nomination could face scrutiny or rejection.
Additionally, Vijay disclosed in his Tiruchi East affidavit that a case had been registered against him for alleged violations during election campaigning in Chennai’s Kolathur. He has since submitted a revised affidavit incorporating this information into his Perambur filing.
Further inconsistencies were noted in the affidavits regarding his age — listed as 52 years in the Perambur nomination and 51 years in the Tiruchi East filing. In response, Vijay has filed additional affidavits for both constituencies to address these variations.
As the Tamil Nadu Assembly election gathers momentum, there has been a surge in public interest in candidates’ affidavits. Political observers and voters alike are closely examining disclosures related to assets, liabilities, and background details.
Apart from Vijay, affidavits of key leaders such as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin have also seen high engagement. Stalin, contesting from Kolathur, has had his affidavit downloaded approximately 1.33 lakh times.
A constituency-wise breakdown shows that Vijay’s Perambur affidavit was downloaded by around 3.04 lakh users, while the Tiruchi East document recorded approximately 21,000 downloads — taking the combined total to over 3.25 lakh downloads.
