Dhurandhar 2 Shatters Bollywood Records With Rs 88 Crore Opening By 4 PM
Ranveer Singh's spy thriller crosses Rs 100 crore net on Day 1, beats Jawan, Pathaan, Stree 2 and Animal; paid previews alone earned Rs 43 crore — four times previous record
Dhurandhar 2 has rewritten Bollywood's box office history on its opening day, Thursday, March 19, becoming the first Hindi film ever to cross the Rs 100 crore net mark on Day 1 after accumulating Rs 88 crore domestically by 4 pm alone — with evening shows still to be counted.
Aditya Dhar's spy thriller had already signalled its extraordinary commercial potential on Wednesday, when paid previews in select theatres worldwide generated Rs 43 crore net domestically — obliterating the previous preview record of Rs 10 crore held by Stree 2 in 2024. That head start meant Day 1 collections began not from zero but from Rs 43 crore, making a nine-figure opening a near-certainty before a single regular show had screened.
By 4 pm on Thursday, the film had added another Rs 45 crore from morning and afternoon shows, taking its running Day 1 total to Rs 88 crore — already the largest opening day collection in Bollywood history, per tracking platform Sacnilk.
With Rs 88 crore already in the bank, Dhurandhar 2 has surpassed the opening day collections of Stree 2 (Rs 54 crore), Pathaan (Rs 57 crore), Animal (Rs 64 crore), and Jawan (Rs 75 crore) — clearing out the entire list of Bollywood's previous best openers in a single morning.
Dubbed versions are also contributing meaningfully, with the Tamil dub leading at Rs 2 crore-plus, and the Telugu version close behind. Malayalam and Kannada versions are expected to accelerate once their screenings get underway, having missed out on Wednesday's previews.
Dhurandhar 2 reunites Ranveer Singh with co-stars R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi under director Aditya Dhar. The original Dhurandhar earned Rs 1,300 crore worldwide and remains in theatres three months after its December release — a rare feat that set the stage for the sequel's record-breaking arrival.
