Amit Shah Unveils BJP ‘Sankalp Patra’ in Kolkata, Promises ₹3,000 Aid and UCC in Bengal
BJP manifesto focuses on women, youth, jobs and governance reforms ahead of West Bengal Assembly elections
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday released the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) manifesto, or ‘Sankalp Patra’, in Kolkata, outlining key promises aimed at reshaping the political landscape ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections.
Among the major announcements, Shah said that a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented within six months if the BJP comes to power in the state. The party also promised monthly financial assistance of ₹3,000 to women, positioning it as a key measure to strengthen their economic security.
The manifesto further pledged 33 percent reservation for women in government jobs and police recruitment, along with a ₹3,000 monthly unemployment allowance for youth. In addition, the BJP committed to implementing the 7th Pay Commission within 45 days of forming the government.
Beyond these headline promises, the party emphasised a “zero tolerance” policy on infiltration and pledged to strengthen border security and law enforcement. The manifesto also included provisions for farmers, promising an additional ₹3,000 support from the state alongside benefits under central schemes, and proposed implementation of healthcare initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat.
Targeting the government led by Mamata Banerjee, Shah alleged a lack of development over the past 15 years and described the manifesto as a roadmap for building a “Sonar Bangla.”
The West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting of votes set for May 4.
