Bomb Threat Email Triggers Evacuation at Chandigarh District Court, Security Tightened
Sector 43 court complex sealed for nearly two hours after drone bomb threat mail; Chandigarh Police finds no suspicious object, probe underway to trace sender.
Security agencies swung into action after the District Court complex in Sector 43 received a bomb threat via email, triggering an immediate evacuation and a large-scale security operation. The threat created panic in the area, prompting authorities to seal the entire court complex as a precautionary measure.
Soon after the alert, all court staff, lawyers, and visitors were safely moved out as entry to the premises was completely restricted. Both gates of the court complex were shut, while police personnel cordoned off the area from all sides.
Bomb disposal squads, senior police officers, and multiple security teams were rushed to the spot to conduct thorough checks.
According to officials, the threatening email warned of a bomb attack using a drone to target the court complex. Following this, a detailed search operation was launched inside the premises. Bomb squad and sabotage teams inspected courtrooms, offices, and surrounding areas for nearly two hours.
A Chandigarh Police officer said the threatening email was received on the official court email address around late morning, after which the SSP office was immediately informed.
Police teams from nearby police stations, along with senior officers, reached the site to supervise the operation. As a safety step, people present inside the court were moved to the parking area before the building was cleared.
After an extensive inspection, officials said no suspicious object was found, and there was no immediate danger. However, security around the court complex remains tight, and efforts are underway to trace the sender of the email.
Authorities noted that this was not the first such incident. The Chandigarh District Court received multiple threats earlier this year. Similar bomb threats were also reported in recent months at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Haryana Civil Secretariat, and even on a Chandigarh-Mumbai flight, prompting heightened alerts at those locations.
Police said investigations are ongoing to identify those behind the email threat, while stressing that the situation is now fully under control.
