Bomb threat to Taj Mahal in Agra: security agencies on alert
The tourism department received a warning via email, intensive checking and security tightened in Taj Mahal premises
The World Heritage Site Taj Mahal has received a bomb threat. An email sent to the tourism department warned of a bomb blast in the Taj Mahal at 9 am. After this, the security agencies immediately became active. Security has been tightened by conducting an intensive search operation in and around the Taj Mahal.
A threatening mail was received on the email ID of the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department at 7:53 am on Tuesday. It read, "A bomb has been planted in the Taj Mahal, which will explode at 9 am." However, information about this email was received at 11 am when the department's office opened.
As soon as the information was received, the police and administration were immediately alerted. After receiving information about the bomb, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deployed in the Taj Mahal complex conducted a thorough search of the entire monument. Every corner was searched and security arrangements were further strengthened.
The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) conducted a thorough check of the main gate of the Taj Mahal, surrounding areas and Dussehra Ghat. However, nothing suspicious was found in the investigation. After this, security was tightened at the barriers on the roads leading to the Taj Mahal.
ACP Taj Security, Areeb Ahmed said that the person who sent the threatening email is being investigated. The BDS team has confirmed that no suspicious object was found after a thorough investigation of the Taj Mahal and surrounding areas.
