UP BJP Set for Major Organisational Reshuffle Under New State President Pankaj Chaudhary
30–40% office-bearers likely to be changed to energise party ahead of 2027 Assembly polls, with focus on performance, generational shift and regional balance; cabinet reshuffle buzz grows.
With the reins of the Uttar Pradesh BJP being handed over to Minister of state for finance in the union government and Maharajganj MP Pankaj Chaudhary, signs of major changes in the state organisation have begun to emerge.
According to party sources here on Tuesday, approximately 30 to 40 per cent of the organisation's officials may be reshuffled under the leadership of the new state president.
Sources say that under this exercise, changes are possible in the 18 vice presidents of the state, seven general secretaries, 16 secretaries, and presidents of various cells like Yuva Morcha, Mahila Morcha, OBC, Minority and Scheduled Caste/Tribe Morcha.
The purpose of this change is to give new energy to the organisation and strengthen it for the upcoming elections, especially the 2027 assembly elections.
It is reported that a formal outline of organisational changes will be drawn up after Pankaj Chaudhary returns from Delhi. During his visit to Delhi, he is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, as well as top party leaders.
Before any organisational changes, extensive discussions will be held with State General Secretary (Organisation) Dharampal Singh.
According to party sources, the process of change is also underway at the district level, and organisational appointments in 14 districts where appointments are pending will be completed first. The BJP's focus will be on bringing new faces into the organisation while retaining experienced leaders, in order to maintain both balance and continuity.
There is also debate within the party that the reshuffle at the level of vice presidents, general secretaries, and ministers will be performance-based and reflect a generational shift within the organisation. New and dynamic faces may be given key responsibilities to prepare for the Panchayat elections and address potential anti-incumbency at the grassroots level.
The appointment of Pankaj Chaudhary, a Kurmi leader from eastern Uttar Pradesh and a native of Maharajganj, has also increased the emphasis on regional balance within the organisation. It is believed that prominent leaders from western Uttar Pradesh will also be given adequate representation within the organisation, as this region is considered politically crucial in the upcoming elections, where the Samajwadi Party and Congress are likely to pose a strong challenge.
Political experts say Choudhary's appointment will further strengthen the organisational base of BJP in eastern Uttar Pradesh, where caste and social equations play an important role in the election results.
The organisational changes have also fuelled speculation about a cabinet reshuffle of the state government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The Uttar Pradesh Council of Ministers has a total strength of 60 members, but currently, there are 54 ministers, including the Chief Minister. Six positions are vacant currently in the cabinet.
According to sources, new faces may be inducted into the cabinet to maintain caste and regional balance within the party organisation and government.
Meanwhile, there are reports that the outgoing state president and prominent Jat leader from western Uttar Pradesh, Bhupendra Chaudhary, is also expected to be given a prominent government responsibility.
