‘Aakanksha’ Working Women’s Hostel Inaugurated in Patna; More Planned Across Bihar
50-bed facility under Women and Child Development Corporation opens in IAS Colony, Rupaspur; initiative strengthens CM’s Nari Shakti push, says Secretary Bandana Preyashi.
A hostel for working women (Aakanksha) was inaugurated on Wednesday in Patna's IAS Colony (Rupaspur). Following Muzaffarpur and Patna, similar hostels are planned for Gayaji, Darbhanga, and Bhagalpur. It is operated under the Women and Child Development Corporation and has accommodation for 50 women. The hostel will also be staffed by a superintendent, assistant superintendent, cook, and other necessary staff.
On this occasion, Department Secretary Bandana Preyashi stated that this initiative is a significant step towards strengthening the Chief Minister's Nari Shakti Yojana at the grassroots level. Secure housing will enable women to work without fear, facilitating their path to self-reliance. This initiative will also strengthen women's safety and social trust in the capital and other areas. These hostels are specifically designed for women who live alone and work in government or other jobs. He said that this hostel, modeled after "Apna Ghar," will only accommodate women with a monthly income of up to 75,000 rupees per month. It has a 50-bed capacity. Women will not have to pay any rent for their stay. They will only have to cover the cost of food, which is 3,000 rupees per month. Beds, lockers, tables, chairs, 24-hour CCTV surveillance, electricity, RO for clean drinking water, TV for entertainment, and free Wi-Fi will be provided. This four-story hostel has two kitchens on each floor, which women can use as needed.
Selection will be based on online applications
Interested women can apply on the official portal of the Women and Child Development Corporation. Housing will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. This will be followed by a counseling process, based on which selection will be made. For this, it will be mandatory for the eligible woman to provide documents related to her employment in the district, identity card, appointment letter, pay slip, complete details of the local guardian, relevant certificate in case of disability etc.
