COMFED Scales Up ‘Sudha’ Brand: Milk Collection Surges Fivefold in Two Decades
Bihar’s dairy cooperative Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation boosts daily collection to 2.25 million kg in FY25, expands processing capacity to 4.85 million kg to strengthen Sudha at national and global level.
COMFED, a unit of the Dairy and Fisheries Department, is continuously striving to strengthen its brand Sudha at the national and international level. In this regard, COMFED has increased its milk collection and processing capacity. According to the latest data from the department, COMFED collected 2.252 million kilograms of milk daily from cattle farmers in the financial year 2024-25. It has now increased its daily milk processing capacity to 4.855 million kilograms.
Reflecting on the past 20 years, milk collection has increased from a mere 4.88 million kilograms per day in 2004-05 to 2.252 million kilograms per day in 2024-25. This represents a nearly five-fold increase in milk collection. This growth has occurred at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 8.5 percent, which is commendable.
During this period, COMFED has rapidly increased its milk processing capacity. In 2006-07, the state's milk processing capacity was 6.30 lakh liters per day, which increased to 48.55 lakh liters per day in 2023-24. Thus, COMFED has increased its milk processing capacity nearly eight-fold. Today, it has the capacity to process nearly twice the amount of milk it collects daily.
