Bihar has commenced wheat procurement for the Rabi Marketing Season 2026-27, with Cooperative Minister Pramod Kumar inaugurating the process at Kinari PACS in Jehanabad district on Wednesday.

Addressing the launch event, the minister said the state government is committed to ensuring that farmers receive the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce without delays. He stated that procurement through Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and trade boards will eliminate dependence on middlemen and enable farmers to get payments within 48 hours of selling their wheat.

The procurement drive will run from April 1 to June 15, 2026, and will be carried out through PACS at the panchayat level, trade boards at the block level, and the Food Corporation of India in selected areas. Wheat will be purchased at an MSP of ₹2,585 per quintal, which is ₹160 higher than last year’s rate.

The state has set a procurement target of 0.18 lakh metric tons for the current season. Officials said farmers can sell their produce at nearby PACS or trade boards based on convenience, and payments will be directly transferred to their bank accounts through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).

Meanwhile, the state has reported strong performance in paddy procurement during the Kharif Marketing Season 2025-26. Against a target of 36.85 lakh metric tons, Bihar procured 36.79 lakh metric tons of paddy, achieving 99.84 percent of the target.

Rohtas district recorded the highest procurement, followed by Kaimur, Aurangabad, Gaya, and East Champaran. Participation of small and medium farmers remained high, with an average procurement of 67.61 quintals per farmer.

A total of 5,40,474 farmers sold paddy through PACS and trade boards during the season. Of these, payments have been made to 94 percent of farmers, while the remaining payments are being processed.

The state government expects the wheat procurement drive to further strengthen farmer incomes and ensure efficient procurement mechanisms across Bihar.
