Bihar has recorded a significant rise in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for the financial year 2025-26, surpassing the previous year’s record. According to data released by the Commercial Tax Department, the state’s GST collections stood at ₹32,801.35 crore, marking an increase of 11.67 percent compared to 2024-25.

Officials stated that the net GST collection, after adjustments related to Integrated GST (IGST), amounted to ₹32,077.22 crore, reflecting a growth of 9.20 percent. The figures indicate a steady improvement in the state’s revenue performance driven by enhanced tax administration and monitoring mechanisms.

Provisional data further showed that Bihar ranked fourth among large states in terms of overall GST collection growth rate. In March 2026, the state recorded a growth rate of 13 percent, significantly higher than the national average of 5 percent. Similarly, based on overall cash collections, Bihar registered a growth of 10.60 percent, outperforming the national average of 6.40 percent.

The state’s total tax collection, including both GST and non-GST revenue, reached ₹43,324.79 crore during the financial year, representing a 4.09 percent increase over the previous year. Against the government’s target of ₹46,500 crore, the department achieved 93.17 percent of the projected collection.

Officials attributed the growth to several administrative measures, including the use of e-way bill analysis, data-driven monitoring, risk-based scrutiny, and improved communication with taxpayers. These initiatives have helped broaden the tax base and ensure better compliance.

The department has indicated plans to continue reforms in the upcoming financial year, focusing on simplifying the tax system, enhancing transparency, and improving taxpayer services while sustaining the upward trend in revenue collection.
