A girl died after being allegedly beaten up by her father who was angry with her for getting low marks in the NEET mock exam and giving the wrong answer when asked the reason for the result. The incident took place at Atpadi taluka of Sangli district in Maharashtra, police said on Monday.

The father of the deceased girl is a school teacher, police said, adding they arrested him on Sunday night. Sadhana Dhondiram Bhosale was a student of 12th standard.

Sadhana was a resident of Nelkaranji village in Atpadi taluka of the district. Sadhana, who dreamed of becoming a doctor, had scored 92.60 per cent marks in class 10. Meanwhile, she scored low marks in the recent NEET mock exam. Due to this, Sadhana's father Dhondiram Bhosale, who was the principal of the secondary school, was furious.

"How did you get such low marks in the NEET practice exam; how can you become a doctor?" he had angrily asked her daughter, police said. Then Sadhana replied to her father, "You also got low marks, where did you study?"

Sadhana's reply made his father furious. Enraged, Dhondiram beat Sadhana severely with a wooden stake. "His wife intervened and stopped him. However, after some time, he started beating Sadhana again," police said.

Later, Dhondiram Bhosale, who was scared, took Sadhana to a hospital in Sangli for treatment. However, she died before she could get treatment there, police said.

Sadhana's postmortem revealed marks of beating all over her body. After the police conducted an investigation and the mother filed a complaint, the police arrested her father, said police.
